Becoming Rock, Ice, Mountain or Ski Master is achieving the pinnacle of hard and soft skills in each or all of the mountain disciplines. The skills taught are IFMGA guiding skills and will transition a recreational leader into an advanced expert mountain leader whose skill set and technique far outperforms traditional recreation technique in terms of safety and efficiency.

 

Goals and Objectives

 

  • To train experienced recreationists to become expert “Masers” mountain leaders so that they may lead Rock, Ice, Mountain and Ski endeavors in complex mountain terrain with the highest level of safety and efficiency in total confidence.
  • To train aspiring “Masters” in the art of flow through the mountains, to abide by the best environmental and ethical standards. To preserves and *encourage mountain culture and their own aspirations in the mountains.
  • To provide candidates with the necessary critical skills and mentorship they will need to succeed in all their mountain endeavors.

 

Timeliness & Cost

 

Mountain Master training has been designed with the needs of aspiring expert “Masters” in mind. Following the philosophy of the Master is what this program is really about. All instructors are true Masters of the mountain who will mentor candidates in the final and ultimate phase of their recreational apprenticeship. This is introducing the guiding skill. These skills, usually reserved for guides will help each student to reach the pinnacle of performance and expertise in each or all of the mountain disciplines. In keeping with the Masters philosophy the program has been designed to be as cost and time effective as possible and it is based on a Mountain Mentorship approach. Expect a demanding fast paced program.

 

Result

 

  • International MSA recognized certificate of achievement in given discipline (i.e. Ice; Ice Master Certificate
  • Each Candidate is appointed a Mountain Guide mentor that will lend advice on any future mountain endeavors when ever that advice is needed.
  • Candidates receive a thorough performance evaluation.

 

Specifics and additional information on the program

 

The training portion of the program introduces candidates to advanced mountain leadership in each of the mountain disciplines (Rock, Ice, Alpine, Ski).

The program effectively forms candidates into advanced Mountain Leaders by teaching and establishing a strong foundation, which utilizes only IFMGA guiding standard skills and techniques. 

The result is the highest level of amateur and pre-professional performance as an independent advanced Amateur Leader. Not only does this allow one to lead others with high levels of safety and efficiency. It also develops crucial skills that allow individuals to move through the mountains more effectively, lighter, faster and safer.

The evaluation portion of the program ensures candidates have the necessary aptitude, skills, ability level and experience to pursue advanced and expert climbing, mountaineering and skiing objectives as expert leaders with safety and confidence.
