This tour combines glacier hiking with mountain climbing. Your guide will give you detailed instructions on the use of equipment and technique for ascending. Hike past the bottom of the Whistler glacier to the base of the Via Ferrata route.
Using a special lanyard system you will clip yourself onto the cable and climb the rock headwall using a series of ladder rungs that lead you to the summit of Whistler Peak. Climbing a Via Ferrata does not require any special skills or prior experience. This thrilling activity is suitable for guests of all abilities.
The tour begins with a 30-40 minute hike before heading up a series of fixed ladders and rungs towards Whistler Peak. There will be a short water/snack break halfway up which provides an opportunity for photos.
Meet the guide at 8:45am at the Escape Route Alpine Demo Centre in the village before you take the gondola to our mountaintop office.
Meet at 12:45pm at our Mountaintop Office. To get to the mountaintop office, take the Whistler Gondola all the way to the top. Walk out of the gondola station about 100m and look for the wooden building on the right.
Note: The Whistler Village Gondola takes 30 minutes from bottom to top and line-ups can get quite busy, so plan to get to the top with plenty of time before the start of your tour.
At the mountaintop office, the guide will have you sign a waiver and be outfitted with your climbing gear. You can also borrow hiking boots here.
All climbing equipment is included.
- Weatherproof shell jacket and pants. Shorts are acceptable depending on conditions
- Warm layers
- 2nd pair of socks (in case your feet get damp from snow on the route)
- Light gloves
- Hiking boots (can be borrowed)
- Small backpack
- Any personal or medical items you require
At the top of the gondola you will be in an alpine mountain environment where weather and conditions can change fast – it is best to be prepared with extra clothing layers.
Hike up to and along the edge of Whistler Mountain overlooking amazing mountain views.
