A clinic is not a course, it is building and refining skills so that they are applied in an efficient and effective manner, which then leads to a strong structured foundation for a safe, rewarding trip and rapid future progression.

Progression Backcountry

Prerequisites: Average Fitness & Intermediate Skier

Minimum Age: 16 yrs

This course is developed to take skills obtained in our Introduction to Backcountry Ski & Splitboarding and AST 1 to the next level. Aimed around skiers and splitboarders who have been out in the backcountry a number of times and are looking to refine their movement skills, sharpen their risk assessment abilities, and overall, make themselves greater assets to their touring partners.

ADVANCED CREVASSE RESCUE

Prerequisites: Average Fitness & Intermediate Skier

Minimum Age: 16 yrs

Self-reliance of small teams is key when travelling in glaciated terrain because any problem encountered has the potential to be severely magnified. Compared even to a smaller 3 person team, a single surface rescuer has less weight to act as a surface fall arresting force, they must hold the victim weight while building an anchor.

The day starts with reviewing and perfecting the transceiver, probe, and shovel skills learned in AST1, but quickly moves on to the advanced skills you need to be the best team mate possible. Topics include advanced techniques like alternate search strategies, flagging/marking, analogue modes, and the most current probing and shoveling strategies. Students will also learn how to deal with more complex scenarios through effective resource management, triage, and how to approach multiple burials, deep burials, and burials in close proximity.
