THE WOMEN’S BACKCOUNTRY SERIES is a program designed to provide the women of the Sea-to-Sky corridor with the knowledge, mentorship, and community support necessary to ski & splitboard safely in the backcountry. The WBS is presented by MOUNTAIN SKILLS ACADEMY and led by our lead female guide APRIL MASON.

The Women’s Backcountry Series is back for its third season and features an expanded program offering and exciting new community partnerships. Already taken your AST1? Get ready for the 21/22 winter season with a Companion Rescue Skills Clinic, Advanced Backcountry Clinic or Crevasse Rescue & Glacier Travel.

INTRO TO BACKCOUNTRY

Prerequisites: Average Fitness & Intermediate Skier

AVALANCHE SKILLS TRAINING 1

Duration: 2 Days

Prerequisites: Average Fitness & Intermediate Skier

Course design and refinement by IMFGA/ACMG Mountain Guides/CAA Operations Level II Professionals of extensive experience.

ADVANCED BACKCOUNTRY SKILLS CLINIC

Duration: 1 Day

Prerequisites: See Clinic Page

This course is developed around skiers and splitboarders who have been out in the backcountry a number of times and are looking to refine their skills.

COMPANION RESCUE SKILLS CLINIC

Duration: 1 Day

Prerequisites: Average Fitness & Intermediate Skier

Spend the day with a guide who will teach you the most up-to-date Search and Rescue techniques to make you a more valuable member of your touring party.

CREVASSE RESCUE & GLACIER TRAVEL

Duration: 2 Days

Prerequisites: Strong Intermediate Ski/Board Level

Backcountry skiers and alpine climbers learn the three all-important skills: rope ascension, crevasse rescue and glacier travel. This is a great next step to start getting into more complex terrain.

AST 2 Whistler

Duration: 4 Days

Prerequisites: See Course Page

The AST 2 course consists of one classroom day and 3 days of extensive outdoor field sessions on the mountain focusing on terrain analysis, snowpack assessment and rescue skills.
