PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Build the Base program is focused on personal skills building, and is a good first step. It produces competent and self-sufficient recreational backcountry skiers and splitboarders. The Build the Base program is suitable for those with no experience. Also suitable for those with experience, because it brings it back to fundamentals and students can learn the “ACMG way”.

The Build the Base program is comprised of:

  • Course to learn personal skills. These will be modeled after MSAA’s Super Courses, which link all of our courses together to form a comprehensive curriculum.
  • Structured Practice sessions to practice skills learned on courses. Students will be given checklists and plans to structure their practice to fast-track their skills and performance. The schedule will allow for structured practice sessions to be conducted outside of class hours with their peers as well as scheduled tours.
  • Workshops to learn or teach additional skills. Think of these like electives. They’re optional topics or skills that students can learn (or teach as part of their work experience).
  • Trips with a guide. To fully develop students’ range of experience, they will travel to regions within the Sea to Sky corridor and explore different types of terrain.
This program runs throughout the Winter Core seaon (December - April).

Students will have the chance at the begining of the season to talk with a member of the MSAA team to arrange the best time for them to schedule each portion of the program.

If students would like to schedule extra tours/courses or trips not included in this program they will be given a membership card which will unlock deals throughout the season which include:
  • 15% membership discount for trips, courses & tours
  • Trip filler promos at additional discounted rate
  • Free events run by MSAA throughout the Winter Season
