Trip INFORMATION

Jim Haberl Hut is located in the Tantalus Range in a high col high above Squamish. The terrain around the hut is well-suited for ski mountaineering and steep skiing. Your guide will discuss the ski objectives with you depending on the group and conditions.

Access to the hut is impossible by foot in the winter and is best reached by a short helicopter flight from Squamish Airport.

Jim Haberl Hut: Jim Haberl Hut is a well-built one-storey hut with a big kitchen, a comfortable common area, and two sleeping rooms that can accommodate up to 12 people. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a backcountry meal.

Transport: Transport to Squamish Airport is not included but can be arranged. A spectacular short flight to Jim Haberl Hut.

**All guided trips subject to a minimum number of participants. 48 hour notice will be given if the minimum number has not been reached.

Day 1

  • 8:00 am meet at Squamish Airport for gear and check waiver, Helicopter instructions
  • 9:00 am short Helicopter Flight to the Hut
  • Drop gear off at the hut and possible ski the rest of the afternoon.
  • Evening food with Guide and debfief.

Day 2

  • Morning Breakfast.
  • 9:00am Skiing until afternoon
  • Evening food with Guide and debrief.

Day 3

  • Morning Breakfast.
  • -Possibly Ski until the scheduled helicopter flight back to Squamish Airport.
  • Debrief

  • Touring skis or splitboard and skins
  • Poles (telescopic poles required for splitboarders)
  • Ski / snowboard boots

  • Water bottle(s) (Minimum 1L capacity)

  • General Repair Kit: to repair packs, clothing, Thermarest, etc.
  • Blister kit/First Aid

  • Glacier travel kit (optional depending on location and only if you know crevasse rescue)
  • Ski and/or boot crampons depending on conditions and objective
  • Mountaineering axe depending on conditions and objective
