Whistler Sky Walk

Via Ferrata is Italian for the ‘Iron Way’ and is a method of climbing a mountain efficiently and safely using iron rungs drilled into the rock face while being attached to a steel cable by a lanyard attached to your harness.

Via Ferrata is a term that dates from WW1 when the Italian military created them as a means for gaining the high ground and to move troops through the alpine environment. Today, they are used by thrillseekers and adventurers to have fun!

The Sky Walk tour lasts up to 2 hours and includes a scenic alpine hike, a section where guests clip into a secure cable to walk along the cliff edge, and opportunities to cross small bridges and ramps. Along the way, your guide will share stories about the flora, fauna, and glacial history of the Coast Mountains.

 Meeting locations and times depend on the tour time:

• Morning tours: Meet at 9:00 am at the Garbanzo Bike & Bean Patio, across from the Whistler Village Gondola. 

Afternoon tours: Meet at 1:30 pm at the MSAA Mountain Top Adventure Cabin (100m from the Roundhouse Lodge). After September 16, afternoon tours begin at 12:00 pm to account for earlier lift closures.

Yes, a valid PEAK 2 PEAK 360 Experience lift ticket is required to access the start of the tour. If you already have a pass, you can book the Sky Walk separately. However, if you need a ticket, it can be bundled with your booking and picked up at the Carleton Lodge Desk (by 11:30 am for afternoon tours).

Alpine weather can change quickly, so we recommend:

• Weatherproof jacket and pants 
• Warm layers and a light pair of gloves 
• Sturdy hiking boots (loaners available if needed) 
• Sunglasses and sunscreen 
• Water, snacks, and a small backpack 
• A camera or a GoPro 
• Two pairs of hiking socks (synthetic or wool) are also recommended for comfort.

Yes, the Sky Walk is a beginner-friendly alpine adventure designed for families and first-time hikers. It includes a guided hike along a secure cliffside route, where participants clip into a safety cable for added confidence. The minimum age is 8 years old, and children under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Younger children may be accommodated on private tours.
