Women's Intro to Backcountry Ski & Splitboarding
Safety and learning are the focus, plus getting into some gorgeous untracked snow!
What is the WBS?
THE WOMEN’S BACKCOUNTRY SERIES is a program designed to provide the wonderful women of Whistler with the knowledge, mentorship, and community support necessary to ski & splitboard safely in the backcountry. The WBS is presented by MOUNTAIN SKILLS ACADEMY, in partnership with THE ESCAPE ROUTE, and HUNTER GATHER.
Are you just starting out? The WBS ‘Introduction to Backcountry ‘is a one-day course designed to introduce you to the gear and the basic skills you will need to begin to explore the backcountry. No backcountry experience is required however you should be confident skiing ungroomed blue/intermediate runs. This course is for skiers and boarders looking to try out the backcountry and develop the basic skills to ski or ride safely.
This is a fun and educational day in the backcountry adjacent to Whistler Blackcomb. Among the many skills you will be introduced to are basic avalanche rescue, terrain analysis, track setting, uphill and downhill skiing technique, route finding, tree skiing and trip planning. We spend a full day skiing and riding while covering uphill and downhill skills in powder, equipment use and safety awareness.
There is no better place in the world to learn backcountry skiing than Whistler and our guides will ensure you have an enjoyable and educational day. This is a must-do tour to complete your stay in Whistler.
Lift Ticket: A lift ticket is required for this course. If you already have a Season Pass, Edge Card or Epic Pass you do not require a ticket. Otherwise you can purchase a backcountry ticket for $59.00+tax at checkout.
